New Super Mario Bros. 2 levererar solida plattformsspel-grunder med utmärkt nivådesign och snäva kontroller som gör det njutbart att spela. Det nya Coin Rush-läget visar sig förvånansvärt beroendeframkallande och förlänger återspelningsvärdet betydligt. Spelet spelar det dock för säkert med en alltför bekant formel, återvunna visuals och musik från tidigare inlägg, och ett myntsamlingsfokus som inte tillför meningsfull djup. Miljoner mynt-målet känns mer som en malning än belönande. Flerspelare fungerar men har kameraproblem som skapar störningar. Bäst för Mario-fans som söker mer klassiskt spelande, men de som önskar innovation kan känna sig besvikna över bristen på färska idéer bortom mynttema.

Mario 2 is far better than the original Mario DS. The original was fun with the traditional platform style of play that we have all come to know and enjoy throughout the Mario franchise, but Mario 2 has a lot more action and color. Some of the annoying things from the original were removed, like you can now save again and again after beating a tower or castle. The annoying chomping sounds from the piranha plants is also gone. In this game, you focus more on getting coins while also collecting the three big gold coins, finding secret levels, and beating Bowser. I've gotten a lot of extra lives just from all the coins I collected.
