I bought this e-reader solely to read on a larger screen. The very first days, I was satisfied. But it didn’t last long. It turns out it’s unable to display certain books properly: missing or partial text, pages, an occasional letter, or a line. In short, unreadable! A real disaster. I should point out that the same epubs display without any problem on my old Kobo Aura H2O as well as on a Vivlio. So it really is this device that is faulty. What’s more, the connection cable has been acting up from the start: even though the e-reader shows that it’s connected, it doesn’t necessarily appear on the computer. And the problem is getting worse! Saying I’m disgusted would be an understatement: having such failures on a brand-new e-reader at that price is unacceptable! And since I live at the other end of the world, if I have to send it back for repair or exchange, it’s going to cost me an arm and a leg. In short, I’m furious and I’m not about to buy a Kobo again!

This was highly recommended online for students. Note taking and reading papers, etc. I guess I should have not gone off of those recommendations alone. The screen is black and white, obviously. I assume it wasn't based on the online recommendations on other sites. Why recommend something that doesn't show color to graduate students in STEM? The internet did not do me any favors on this one. This won't actually work for school if you need to review complex figures and make notes on them. Almost all of the papers I have to review (and most in STEM) can only be read in color. This is an awful option for any student in STEM. Eventually you will be given a heat map with positive and negative shadings for some sort of xy distribution, and it won't make any sense on here. I am sure it's great if you never need to look at graphs or maps, for me it was an unfortunate waste of a small fortune.

The Kobo Elipsa 2E hits as an E Ink tablet, but misses as a digital notebook, mainly because we experienced inconsistent pen accuracy in our time with it. The slate's hardware also fails to hit the stylish notes of some competition, but makes up for it by being comfortable in-hand and very lightweight. Matched with a great E Ink screen and the new Kobo Plus all-you-can-read service, if you're looking for a large e-reader that supports in-book annotation first and a notepad second, the Elipsa 2E could be for you.
