I've been wearing Speedgoats since Version 2 and other models before that. They are my go-to shoes for trail running and, as I get a little older, fast hiking. I bought a pair of this new Version 7, probably without trying them on because 9.5 Speedgoats are what I wear, and put them in the rotation with older Version 6s. I hadn't had them long before I realized the right shoe felt decidedly too short in the toe box. I tried to ignore it but realized they really were not comfortable. Putting it down to my feet getting bigger with age, I tried on size 10s but they just felt too big, and a different pair of 9.5s was also too short (right shoe). I found a pair of Version 6s in 9.5 on close-out, and "ahhh, this is what they are supposed to feel like." They fit right. I believe Hoka has a quality control issue with the Version 7, at least the rights, that will hopefully be addressed before all the 6s on closeout are gone.

Im usually a size 10.5 and ive always ordered a size 11 in all my other versions of speedgoats and they have always been perfect. This version is different. They feel great on flat ground but when heading down hill my toes are crushed in a way that causes a lot of pain. I tried all the lacing trucks but nothing worked. I think the toebox is a lot smaller. Im also afraid if I went up another 1/2 size they would be to loose in the heel as these ones are right on the verge of it anyway. After reading all the new poor quality reviews when I came to leave this one, I am probably gonna move on from hoka and find something else.

I’ve worn the Goat for many years. Ordered my usual size and finding my toes are hitting the front edge. Not the case with my older shoes. Not thrilled about ordering a half size larger as typically the arch will be out of whack.

The shoe had lots of cushion and traction that I like in a trail running shoe however this version of the Speedgoat was more narrow than usual (no wide options were available for this style) and the top of my foot kept hitting the top of the toe box (needs be a little higher)

I wore two pairs of the Speedboat 7s for my PCT thru hike, and while it's a great shoe, the upper durability needs to be significantly more robust. On my first pair, I popped holes on both sides in under 100 miles and in my second pair, I have 5-6 holes on each side 500 miles in, one of which actually goes across 60% of the toe box of the shoe. The rest of the shoe is great - I find them extremely comfortable, the traction is amazing, and the cushion is still holding up after 500 miles. These would have been 100% my go to shoe for my whole thru hike if the upper durability wasn't such a problem. If I wasn't thru hiking (which makes shoes difficult to get / budget a little bit tight), I would not have continued to wear either pairs past 200 miles, which is just too short of a lifespan for a nearly $200 shoe.
