I love using my Fuji XF50-140mm but occasionally need a wide angle. I could have waited for the new XF16-55 mk2 but decided a lightweight lens was more appropriate. The XF16mm f2.8 has proved to be excellent for this purpose.

So, I've been after this prime wide angle lens ever since it came out but couldn't afford it. Recent drops in price made me snap it up. Small and light, has all the quality manufacturing that Fujinon lenses are famous for. It's my go to lens now, it stays on the camera. Perfect for my love of photographing clouds and architecture. No distortion, auto focusing is silent and immediate...I can't fault it.

Despite the lack of frame lines, the 16/2.8 is a great wide angle match with the X-Pro2. The OVF matches the 16mm field of view, and parallax is only an issue at close distances, where it makes sense to switch to the EVF anyway. The 16/2.8 has weather sealing, which the 18/2 sorely misses. And the 16mm FoV (on APS-C) makes it a great city walkaround lens.

The Fujifilm XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR comes in a $400, which is a relative bargain for its performance, build quality, and size. If you’re looking for a wide multi-purpose lens for landscapes, travel, and the occasional portrait, this is a tough lens to beat. If you’re like me, and like to shoot with multiple prime lenses based on the situation, this makes for a great addition to a travel trio or four pack. If you need a faster lens at this focal length and don’t mind the size and heft of the 16mm f/1.4, that is another option. The smaller size and cost savings are ultimately what pushed me to the 16mm f/2.8, and so far I have no regrets.

Good Points: Quick to focus, weather resistant, small. Improvement Points: aperture ring too easy to change accidentally, plastic lens shade.
