Compared with a classic lens like the Nikon 50...

Compared with a classic lens like the Nikon 50 1.4 Ai-S, the Samyang is more useful at its full aperture, thanks probably to the good general constrast of the image and the low chromatic aberation. It is not on par with more elaborate modern designs like the Sigma 50 1.4 Art, though. The f:2 aperture gives good results, with a still nice bokeh. At smaller apertures, the Samyang is excellent. The coma aberation is very low compared to the Nikon 50 Ai-S 1.4 and the 1.8. Really nice when you shoot at night, where there\'s plenty of abrupt transitions between highlights and pitch dark. The Samyang is a bigger lens than the old Nikon. The build is fine but less apealing than all-metal Voigtländer lenses or even Ai-S Nikon lenses.

Good Points: Good build...

Good Points: Good build quality Lightweight Improvement Points: Not very sharp. I was expecting it to be amazingly sharp because it’s a version 2 but unfortunately it is not. Some zoom lens are sharper even though this is a prime lens. Felt disappointed so i Had to return

A pleasant surprise

This is the first manual lens I own. I use this on my Sony A7Rii and having a good time using this lens so far. I'm a novice level shooter and have been using AF lenses. Still practicing to get better in manual mode but I'm enjoying the process. It's slower than AF but it feels rewarding. I love the focusing ring on this lens, it's buttery smooth. The aperture ring has clicks on it which I think it nice to have. I've been trying to shoot in the dark with this lens at 6400 ISO and the pictures turned out much sharper than I expected. I use Focus peaking and Magnifier and the pictures look like I shot them in a well-lit place. The bokeh is buttery smooth!! This being my first FF manual lens, I didn't want to spend big $$ on big brand names and I'm glad I bought this lens. The sharpness on this lens is neck to neck with the Zeis AF 50mm. This one is a definite keeper. I'll try to upload some sample pictures when I have a chance.

Probably a good lens but doesn't fit my camera I use Canon and ordered a Canon fit but got a Nikon mount. My review is really a criticism of the seller really careless.

Great lens. Beats out my Nikon 1.8

First, the negative, it's manual only, and the f-stops (on my D810 anyway) run from F0 to F6 in aperature priority mode (I guess that's an error/approximation). Now for the positive; it's way sharper and has better color than my 50mm 1.8 Nikon G lens. It also has nicer bokeh. Definitely a 5 star lens if you don't mind the manual nature of it. Then again, if you want great quality, then it's a tradoff you're willing to endure. Samyang/Rokinon is a very underrated brand in my opinion. My 85mm, and 14mm lenses by them are hella sharp as well. I'm selling my Nikon 50mm, as this lens is far superior to it optically (not convenience or size-wize though; it weights about twice as much as my Nikon version).
