I have now taken advantage of both the “winter cashback” deals and the introductory offers from Sony with regards my brand new A7 IV camera body and 2 lenses. Being brand new to photography the initial cost is daunting but Sony have somewhat eased that burden with these cashback offers. Unfortunately, this lens has proven to be a bit disappointing for me. I mainly shoot Nightscape and purchased this lens due to its wide aperture and expected quality. Sadly the lens has shown massive fringing of stars for my astro nightscape work. All the stars come out purple and I need to apply defringe in Lightroom and 75% desaturation to eliminate the problem. It is also very prone to lens flare during sunset and sunrise. Given this is a G Master lens and the other G Master lenses I own have been truly superb, the 35mm is very disappointing in these areas. Certainly sharp and clear and everything else about the lens is excellent, but I was surprised it just can't cope with astro work.

Having purchased a Sony camera specifically knowing I would pair it with this G-master lens, I have only used this lens for a couple of weeks and the results are excellent. I love the image quality and capabilities to compress and isolate the subject with a 35mm. However, considering the cost of this lens in comparison to the 35mm FE F1.8, which I purchased first, I’m a little disappointed with the build quality of the the copy I have received as the body case next to the aperture ring creaks when handling the lens body. This isn’t what I would expect at this price point and especially being a G-Master lens, I rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
