Pros: I liked the size and weight of this drive in comparison to any of the other flimsy drives I have purchased. Cons: It will not spin up consistently. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, whether plugged directly in to a USB 3 port or a powered hub (and yes, every other USB device I plug in to them does work). I have not been able to burn an ISO file directly from a disc in the drive either. It just stops spinning and fails or locks up the software. It also would not run a program setup from a brand new disc. I had to copy the files off the disc into a folder to the hard drive and run the setup from there. Given the price to performance ratio of this drive I cannot recommend it. It is overall a disappointment given that HP has traditionally been a reliable brand in my experience. I will be requesting an RMA and my money back and will not purchase this drive again.

Moving to Win10 machines, from Win7, and have no CD/DVD drive on the Win10 platforms. I have tried several other 'external CD/DVD drives' of which 2 have been from Amazon sellers. None of them worked- various reasons, but mostly their inability to consistently read a DVD (movies, installations, archived data). This drive has faithfully and consistently read every disk I have fed it. It's heavy, not very pretty, quite 'industrial' in fact, but if you want to have a CD/DVD R/W drive that actually works, this is the ticket. More expensive, yes. Frustrating, no.

not reliable, same with internal CD drv, cannot pick up some disks, very noisy. data cable is too short to connect drv with desktop or laptop, inconvenient.
