The scanner constantly loses its connection with the Windows 10 computer and you have to go through this recovery procedure. It's a huge pain and rarely works reliably. We have to reboot several times to get the scanner to be recognized. We also have a ScanSnap ix500 and it has the same driver problem these days. The multi-page detection doesn't work as well as it should. You have to do a lot of it manually. Also, the metdata for the pages is hidden somewhere inside the application (not in the PDF) so you can't scan pages on one computer and make the copious manual corrections on another computer. The OCR is a lot less reliable than you would expect.

I bought this for scanning genealogy materials, but my first use of it was to scan the yearbook for my flight school class of 1966, 66G from Craig AFB. Several members had lost theirs including one by fire. They were glad to get the straight pages this produces. I also scanned a memorial booklet for one of our class members. Very easy to use, senses when I flip the page making it easy to copy a book. Not being Chinese eases my mind about the software.

The unit functions well and is easy to use but all the weight is in the top and there is no practical way to clamp it or secure it permanently. It comes with a couple of little brackets that use sticky tape to brace it but I have no faith in such faint. The brackets, if they were strong enough to hold it, are designed to brace it in only one dimension, side to side. Back to front knocks would likely defeat the stickum. It would not be practical to leave it out for daily use, odds are it will get knocked to the floor. This scanner could not be used in a public space, that's for sure. The scan quality is good and the software corrects the page distortion. But colour reproduction is poor, light colours wash out completely and others are rendered incorrectly. Dark and strong colours are reproduced best. This unit will not replace other scanners, a sheet feed or flatbed book scanner would be a better choice.

I am in the process of digitizing everything that I can. I have a scan snap document scanner and it works great but obviously it would not work for books or other bulky items and was not great for photos. Since I really liked the way Scan Snap works I purchased the Scan Snap SV600. I love it. It was just as easy to set up as the document scanner and is just as easy to operate. After watching a You Tube video I did purchase a clear acrylic sheet from the hardware store to hold the books down (no more fingertips in the scan) The scans are clear, the software works great and I am very happy with the purchase.
