As I work from home my printer cartridge costs were rising so after researching printers online I decided to go the Ink Tank route. This GX4050 was getting top reviews. Print Scan Copy functions are good but not used the Fax as that is something I do not use. So far so good but early days. Although the initial purchase cost is high I am hoping that ink usage savings will still keep me 'pounds saved' after 1 year based on my usage. This means I will recoup the initial outlay cost quite quickly. I have read that to stop any possible ink 'dry-up' you should print one sheet in all colours once a month to maintain ink fluidity. I have rated this 5 stars based on my short-term ownership but I am not expecting problems. I extended the on-offer free warranty extension to 3 years via Canon Website so not too worried if it plays up long-term.

Takes a long time to warm up ready for use. Even when warmed up first print takes many minutes to spool and be printed. Printing often stalls and takes time to restart. Often says it is offline when spooling and then suddenly starts printing a short while later. Randomly feeds from cassette even if you specify upper rear tray as the paper source when printing. Doesn't feed from rear card tray at all - not an option in the software. Colour prints have roller marks down centre. Scanner stops with jam warning constantly even though in reality there is no jam and it has simply stopped feeding the paper. Have to try multiple times and stitch document together.

The Canon MAXIFY GX4050 is a great inkjet multifunction, with all the features a small office might reasonably need. It comes with generous ink supplies, and even when they’re gone it’s still very cheap to run. It’s a shame, then, that it’s so expensive to buy in the first place.
