Great camera. All-auto settings look noisy but its a pro camera so dont rely on auto. Then its easy to control and gets incredible results. Light in the hand. Low light is no problem. Discrete controls, lots of options for custom buttons. This camera looks better in HD than most camcorders in 720. The best part of this camera is no transcoding and its 422 8-bit for minor grading. Loading the files, chop, and render easily. I need quick turnaround and HD. Face detection works great and all is well. Glad this is still on the market.

The clarity of the videos was outstanding. The only thing I didn't care for is that there isn't a dedicated single shot button. You can assign a button to take snapshots, but the location of those buttons isn't very good.

Let's be real. 1080HD Camcorders are obsolete. But this was one of the best video rigs of the pre-4K generation. I use this to generate content I get paid for. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the XF105, but great for run & gun, ENG and other "video" work. Doesn't take the place of digital cinema cameras, but is suitable for "reality show" grade video productions. Do understand that it does not output in the typical MPEG or Quicktime file formats. I had to buy 3rd party software to get it to output in a format my editor (Adobe Premier Elements 11) could actually edit. Also I don't shoot at the maximum bitrate as my PC just can't handle it. All that said, if you have good light it produces a good image.

We just purchased this for our library through a grant. I like the camera. The one thing that I feel should have been emphasized when purchasing was that it does not come with a CompactFlash which is essential if you're going to make videos, and why buy it if you weren't? I'm completely new at video recording so someone more experienced would probably already know this. This review is for the amateurs like myself. If you bought the camera to film an important family event, it won't happen unless you've also purchased the CompactFlash.
